  • Description

The primary task of volunteers would be to help teach the students. Depending on the availability of teachers at the time and knowledge of the volunteer, volunteers may be asked to teach their own class. Preparing lessons and tests as well as marking tests and assignments would be a great help.

Since many of the teachers have limited teaching skills, it would be appreciated if volunteers would work with the teachers to help develop and expand teaching techniques and/or basic computer skills. Making educational games and visual aids to help the children retain material are good examples.

In spare time, volunteers could work in decorating the school and creating a good studying atmosphere!

The volunteer will mostly be working with Class 1 students (aged 5-8) teaching and helping with Math, Science, Grammar, Arts and crafts, Phonetics, and Reading.
Volunteers are also welcome to assist the school with fund raising and helping to brainstorm new ideas for improvements. Creating games and activities for the children, even on weekends, are also welcomed and encouraged.

  • Highlights

The Silver Primary School is a new school and it is still under development. There is a lot of work still to be completed at this school, however they have started classes for their students.

Elementary classes are for the older students at the school, aged 5-8 yrs old. These classes are very important for the proper development of the children; helping them develop knowledge and essential skills, basic math, reading, writing, problem solving, etc. It is important for volunteers to help develop and teach stimulating classes for the students. Silver Medium School is working hard to continuously improve the services they have available, however, many of their teachers are under trained and have limited English skills. Helping them develop lesson plans and create structure in their classes would be beneficial,in addition to assisting with teaching. A lot of dedication and enthusiasm is needed to ensure that these children have a good base and are ready for the higher levels of education.

Teaching subjects will include English and Math, with other subjects such as art, music, social studies optional and depend on the experience of the volunteer. Any extra subjects the volunteer can bring to the school is readily accepted.
