Description

Volunteers assisting as care givers with the Samaritan Village Orphanage will be actively particpating in the day-to-day tasks of the house. During your placement you will be asked to help feed the children in the morning. After this the older children need to be gathered and sent to school, while the younger ones need to be entertained and played with.

During the day you will be asked to assist with preparing and feeding meals, organizing games and activities for the children that are age appropriate, putting the children down for their naps, and helping to tidy the house. When the older children return from school you will have the opportunity to play games with them and help them with their homework.

Volunteers will be very beneficial to the children at this home. The children often do not receive the attention that they need because of underfunding and understaffing at the orphanages. The women who work at these houses do the best they can, but there are not enough of them to sufficiently meet the needs of the children.

Highlights

The Samaritan Village Orphanage needs help from volunteers to care for the children while keeping them happy and engaged. Also, volunteers are needed to help reduce the workload of the current staff members who are dedicated to the orphanage and work very hard.

Samaritan Village is blessed to have wonderful 'mamas' who work day and night to provide care for the children. Helping them with cooking and cleaning around the house, feeding and changing the babies would be greatly appreciated.

During the day when the older children are at school the younger children and babies are still at the centre. Many of these children have either been abandoned by their parents, or have lost their parents due to diseases or accidents, and they require extra attention and love.
The care and attention of volunteers can help tremendously, whether it be simple stimulation, educational games, one-on-one social interaction or group activities. From learning to feed themselves, dress themselves, tie their shoes or learning how to share, these children would benefit tremendously from a volunteer who is willing to spend quality time with them.

Qualifications

Volunteers with experience taking care of children and helping with housework would be well suited for this placement. Any social work or child psychology experience is also an asset since some of the children have developmental and/or learning disabilities.

Program Fees Include:

Upon arrival in country our staff will pick you up at the airport and return you to our Orientation Center for a safety briefing and general country orientation. For this program you are required to complete one - 4 weeks of language training and orientation which is included in the cost of the program. At the end of that week you will transfer to your placement to begin volunteering. Our staff are available to assist you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week should you require help of any kind.

If you are from 16-18 years old you may apply for placements near our Volunteer Abroad Office and Residence, so that we are able to give you more support.
