Description

During your time as an Administrative Assistant at Shanga you will be integral in helping with the daily operations of the Shanga workshop, retail store and River House restaurant. Tasks will include performing daily inventory at the shop and ensuring that it is stocked. You will also be asked to assist the shops to keep track of their sales and purchases.
Since Shanga has grown and now caters to many international clients, you will be able to assist with keeping track of the orders and ensuring that they are packaged correctly and shipped out on time. You may also be asked to help with other administrative tasks such as registering visitors for tours and answering e-mails.

Highlights

Shanga is an organization whose main goal is to employ as many deaf and disabled people as possible. People living with disabilities in Tanzania often struggle to support themselves and become contributing members of their society. Through Shanga they feel accepted and gain self-appreciation through work. Proceeds from the shop and restaurant go directly to the salaries of these people who would normally not be able to find employment elsewhere.
Administration at Shanga is quite a challenge right now as the organization has been constantly growing, offering new services and hiring more staff. Volunteers in this position would be crucial in helping to ensure the organization runs as smoothly and efficiently as possible.

Qualifications

Experience working with the deaf or disabled would be an asset for volunteers interested in this placement. Also, experience doing administrative tasks including inventory and shipments would also be beneficial.

Program Fees Include:

Upon arrival in country our staff will pick you up at the airport and return you to our Orientation Center for a safety briefing and general country orientation. For this program you are required to complete one - 4 weeks of language training and orientation which is included in the cost of the program. At the end of that week you will transfer to your placement to begin volunteering. Our staff are available to assist you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week should you require help of any kind.
