Being a student at Sydney isn't just about study. Becoming involved in non-academic activities at the University helps you to develop a network of friends and broaden your outlook and skills. All campuses have their own services and facilities, including cafes, social and recreational venues, student organizations and a rich social and sporting life. Prayer facilities for all faiths are available on campus, and on the social side, the University offers a 'UniMates' program that helps you settle in and meet people.

Student organizations are an important part of university life. The University of Sydney Union (USU) is the oldest and largest student organization in Australia. The Union arranges a wide variety of entertainment everything from live music to Arts festivals and coordinates major student events like Orientation Week. The University's registered clubs and societies cover a wide range of interests from archery to sailboarding, from sushi to Scottish country dancing, from meditation to politics.

In addition to the social and sporting clubs, there are more than 50 international student clubs that provide support for students from all backgrounds. Societies include the Sydney University Association of Malaysian Students, the University of Sydney Indonesian Students Association, the Sydney University Muslim Students Association, the Singaporean Students Association, the University of Sydney Indian Society and many more. It's a good idea to join as many clubs as possible in your time on campus in order to develop a network of friends and to broaden your outlook and skills.

Sydney is located in an area of outstanding natural beauty. There are many activities in the nearby region to get involved in, from walking in the Blue Mountains or in the Royal National Park to hang-gliding or whale watching at several glorious spots on the coast. The famous Hunter Valley wine region is also close by if you are in search of the perfect Pinot Noir!
