    Study abroad for a semester or year at James Cook University with GlobaLinks Learning Abroad, formerly known as AustraLearn.

    James Cook University has easy access to the rainforest and the Great Barrier Reef which makes the campus a perfect setting for those seeking a world-class education in a tropical environment. JCU's main campuses are located in the northern Queensland cities of Cairns and Townsville, which are some of the fastest growing regions in the country and are home to a combined 15,500+ students from over 100 countries worldwide.

    The University is world renowned for its research in a number of areas relating to its tropical location including marine biology, environmental studies and tourism and has outstanding research facilities including island and rainforest research stations. Accordingly, there are hundreds of subjects offered for students to choose from, ranging from the sciences to business, nursing to archaeology.

    JCU's locations offer a large variety of outdoors activities such as skydiving, white water rafting, wildlife parks, bush and beach horse rides and much more. No other university can offer such a wide range of classes in the shadow of two of the world's finest natural heritage areas - The Wet Tropics Rainforests and the Great Barrier Reef.

We design our programs so that our local and overseas staff are available 24 hours a day to support you in health and safety matters and are also key in enhancing your study abroad experience. Through our planned activities and resident director's personal recommendations for activities you can undertake while abroad, you will be directed on a path of personal, academic, cultural, social, and professional discovery.   • Highlights

    Many of the popular study abroad subjects available at JCU are not offered in other areas of the world, such as Aboriginal Studies or Reef and Rainforest Science. And, many of the subjects available to study abroad student include a practical component and/or field trips. Some of the popular subjects that include field trips include Linking Indigenousness (camping with aboriginal communities and being taught by the elders in the rainforest, bushland and desert outback), and JCU's Maritime Archaeology and Rock Art Field Schools.

    As a part of international orientation week, the JCU Student Association organizes trips to nearby attractions including Magnetic Island , Fitzroy Island , Billabong Sanctuary Wildlife Park and the Great Barrier Reef. A welcome barbecue is also organized for all new students in addition to many other activities held throughout the year such as Arts Week (Townsville), Campus Bands Competition, Green Week ( Cairns ), free movies and more!

    Program fees includes tuition for 3-4 subjects, guaranteed pre-arranged housing, GlobaLinks Learning Abroad Bridging Cultures Program on-site in Cairns, Australia, optional spring break tours, access to a transcript from our U.S. University of Record, affiliate student fee discounts, end of program workshop, university administrative fees, overseas health coverage, all pre-trip services including orientation materials, visa-processing service (excluding the visa fee), personal advising, subject selections, liaison with your home university, credit transfer assistance, financial aid services, and 24-hour assistance while abroad.
