Augustana is a private, four-year college affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, offering students of varying backgrounds and ages an education that combines a broad foundation in the liberal arts with preparation for professional careers or advanced study. About 1800 students are enrolled at Augustana, providing students with small class sizes and close relationships with professors.

With a population of 160,000, Sioux Falls is a major medical and financial center in the region. Because of low unemployment, there is a tremendous need for part-time employees and students find jobs easily. Additionally, students are able to land internships with outstanding businesses in the community. There are few colleges in the country, much less the state of South Dakota and the region, with as much going for them as Augustana with respect to part-time jobs, internships and the possibility of employment after graduation. (The closest comparison to Sioux Falls is the Fargo-Moorhead area. Yet, there are 20,000 college students vying for the same opportunities). Augustana, with only 1800 students, is the largest college in Sioux Falls.
