Magical Baiardo Awaits You!

Location

Italy: Baiardo

Description

Volunteers participate in the restoration of several medieval houses owned by the Cultural Association, A.C.L.E. We welcome volunteers year round. The climate varies, it is very cold from December to February however we make sure volunteers feel comfortable as possible.

It is expected that volunteers interested in this project will want to make the most of the ideal situation, about 6 hours a day should be spent working on the houses. You will be expected to work Monday to Friday unless agreed otherwise. Most of the work involves painting, landscaping, furniture restoration, cleaning, clearing rubble and general maintenance. If there are guests renting some of the houses, your duties may include or be replaced with housekeeping responsibilities. You are welcome to work at your own pace and don't necessarily need to have muscles to take on this job (but you will have them by the end!). Work tools are provided, but you need to bring working clothes.

We provide you with accommodation which includes a bed in shared accommodation with other volunteers (mixed sexes). There's electricity, hot and cold running water, fully functioning bathrooms and kitchens. If working in autumn and winter bring plenty of warm clothes as it can get very cold at night.

As this is a volunteer project your flights and living expenses will not be paid for, and only your accommodation and basic food is provided. You must have your own insurance policy.

Living costs are minimal - just personal items.

Highlights

Baiardo is located 23km from Sanremo and is 900m above sea-level. The houses are available for people looking to write, to paint, to compose, to learn Italian, or to simply get away from the ceaseless activity that so easily invades our lives - you may come for a few days, for a week, for a month...

Baiardo is a majestic village steeped in rich history dating back thousands of years. With 2000 year old foundations, the houses are situated on the hill top, an isolated retreat with breathtaking views.

The village has two food stores, a post office and a couple of restaurants and bars.

It should be noted that due to the size and character of Baiardo the conduct of volunteers is of the utmost importance if the inhabitants are to continue to welcome strangers into the village.
