The Tenuta di Spannocchia is a historic organic farm, educational center, and guest residence located in the hills near the medieval city of Siena. We accept one Guest Services Intern for each three-month session. There are three sessions each year. Guest Services Interns participate in educational and cultural activities alongside seven other Spannocchia interns (who work on our organic farm) including twice weekly Italian instruction, and educational presentations on aspects of organic farming, Italian culture, and much more.
The following is a list of responsibilities that Guest Services Interns may be assigned to, depending on the season and the activities taking place at Spannocchia:
Kitchen/Dining Room:
- Set up, serve, and clean up breakfast for guests and program group participants on weekdays
- Re-stock kitchen with wine for dinner and breakfast items
- Wash, sterilize wine bottles for re-use
- Create flower arrangements and tend flower/herb garden
- General kitchen help
- Provide information to guests about Spannocchias products and activities, as well as local activities and tourist sites
- Help in the vegetable garden
Hospitality:
- Landscaping/Gardening
- Help deliver walking tours around the farm
- Provide information to guests inquiring about local activities and tourist sites
- Assist staff with tending the Guest Shop
- Label and organize Spannocchia products for sale
- Assist with light bookkeeping
Guest Services Interns are enthusiastic young adults interested in sustainable communities and Tuscan culture and history. Guest Services Interns spend their time working with our guests, setting up and serving meals, cleaning, and helping with light accounting among other things. Flexibility and people skills are required. Highlights include exposure to Italian culture, independent travel on weekends and community living.
Applicants must be high school graduates at least 18 years of age and go through an extensive application process. No experience is required, but a willingness to learn is a must!
250 Euro + 30
Participants are required to pay a 250 dollars educational fee to offset the cost of educational and cultural activities offered. Participants must also join the Spannocchia Foundation at the 30 dollars student membership rate.
