ASD Cultural Exchange has touched the lives of youth of all ages...from enhancing their physical abilities, their sense of pride, their cooperation and respect for others, to encouraging handicapped individuals to compete in sports and by providing educational and cultural opportunities through international competition.
ASD Cultural Exchange began as an individually funded program whose idea was founded over 10 years ago. We were approved for our Non-Profit status in 1997 and have just begun to expand our programs to match our mission statement, which is to provide an environment fostering participation in educational, athletic and cultural events for all Americans.
ASD Cultural Exchange currently works with over 15 countries and has organized exchange programs for over 500 Americans in the past year. Our goal is to double that figure each year until we are providing opportunities for 5000 persons each year.
The ASD Cultural Exchange program not only gave these young men and women the opportunity to experience sports and cultural in different countries, but also to serve as unofficial diplomats of the United States to other families and groups around the world.
ASD Cultural Exchange currently works in concert with over 15 countries and 20 different sports and cultural programs. ASD Cultural Exchange athletes have participated in local and national level sporting events around the world, our cultural programs have participated in homestay programs, language programs and various dance and music programs.
We are a strong, vital organization and anxious to expand our efforts to have an even larger impact on the community, specifically to meet the needs of our youth that wish to be involved in programs such as ours.
Even though sports and cultural programs are the motivation for this innovative non-profit program, the impressions these young people take with them will serve to benefit world understanding in the years ahead. There is a meaningful impact for students who take part. ASD Cultural Exchange programs promote being a "good sport" in more ways than one. The structured competition and cultural exchange programs enhances physical and mental abilities, a sense of pride in their achievements, teaches cooperation and a sense of respect for themselves and others.
These participants ate the leaders of the future. The globe is getting smaller and smaller. What better way to build understanding between cultures than to introduce young people to each other before prejudice, misunderstanding and politics have had time to erode their faith in the good will of all men.
