Spend your summer with an internship program in Spain, working on your Spanish language skills, professional skills, and enhancing your international experiences. In conjunction with the Fundacion Jose Ortega y Gasset in Toledo, Arcadia is pleased to offer a summer internship program in Toledo. This program offers students the opportunity to gain first-hand experience in the Spanish workplace, while taking a course especially designed to support the internship experience and provide a forum for students to reflect upon the sociological, economic, and cultural issues they are learning about in their internships.

Academic Program
The program details are as follows:

Six weeks
30 contact hours per week on site (for 6 credits)
15 contact hours per week on site (for 3 credits)
1-2 students maximum per placement
Enrollment in course designed to support the internship experience (3 or 6 credits)
Students are required to complete a final paper to be presented to class
Placement Information
Internship placements are available in a variety of fields including:

* Local and regional government (Regional Parliament, City Hall)
* Business and Economics (Chamber of Commerce, banks, Business Federation of Toledo/FEDETO)
* Health and Human Services (local hospitals, Red Cross)
* Communications (local newspaper, televisión, and radio)
* Social Work (non-governmental agencies providing services for recent immigrants and children)
* Tourism (regional, nacional)
* Library and Museum studies (Castilla y la Mancha Library, local museums)

Credits
Courses may be selected among various departments. You will earn 6-9 credits for the summer semester.

Admission Requirements
GPA Requirements: 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

Four semesters of college-level Spanish or the equivalent. You must be in good academic standing and not on disciplinary probation. You must submit a complete application including a transcript, letter of recommendation from a faculty member, and an advisor's form in order for your application to be considered.

Highlights

An Arcadia program isn't just about enrolling you in an overseas institution, however. Its about all of the services that we provide. Before you go, you can contact our program manager for advice on the application process, choosing courses, housing or simply what you should pack. Once you arrive, our resident director will lead an orientation program that will introduce you to the culture, history and politics of Spain as well as prepare you for the academic challenges of studying in a different educational system.

Events and excursions designed to enhance your understanding and knowledge Spain, and in particular, the city in which you will be living, will take place throughout the semester.

Whether it is listening to music at a local peña flamenca, hiking in the Sierra Nevada or Alpujarras region, attending a Spanish fútbol match or exploring art museums in Montjuic, there is bound to be something of interest to you. Along the way you will have questions about academics, your program, and aspects of Spanish culture and our staff will be there to help you find answers.

Excursions and events vary by semester and by group. To give you an idea of what you might expect, here is a list of sample excursions:

* Visit to the Alpujarra Region outside of Granada
* Flamenco performance
* Attending Spanish futbol match
* Feria de Sevilla in April (including optional visit to Corrida de Toros)
* Visit to the town of Ronda
* Tracing the Route of Don Quijote
* Visit to Segovia and El Escorial
* Weekend excursion to Andalucía, Madrid
* Visit to Montserrat
* Trips to Tarragona, Girona, Figueres
* Guided Museum Tours: Reina Sofia and El Prado
* Trip to the famous Cava bodega, Codorníu

Housing is a key component of your experience in Toledo. Arcadia offers you the option of living in the residence hall at the Fundación or with a carefully selected Spanish host family (for an additional fee). Your program manager can help you decide which option would match your particular situation and objectives for your time abroad.

One of the best ways to completely immerse yourself in the Spanish language and culture is to observe and fully participate in the day-to-day activities of a Spanish family. If you choose to live with a Spanish family, you will live anywhere from 5 to 30 minutes from the Fundación.

To give you the opportunity to experience authentic Spanish cuisine, your breakfast and dinner will be provided by the host family and you will have the option of eating lunch at the Residencia cafeteria Monday through Thursday. If you choose to live in the residence hall, you will be housed with other international students at the Fundación in either a single, double, or triple room (with en-suite bathroom). All of your meals are provided at the Residencia's cafeteria.
