With help from the College of Global Studies at Arcadia University, you will be set up with an incomparable study abroad experience at the Fundacion Jose Ortega y Gasset. This program is a renowned institution of higher education that offers a wide range of courses in Spanish language, history, and culture. A limited number of internship opportunities are also available to further your experiences abroad. Past internships have been secured in such places as governmental and communications agencies and healthcare establishments.
The Fundacion Jose Ortega y Gasset is a degree-granting institution that focuses on strengthening Past Participant Button knowledge of Spanish language and culture through a wide range of course offerings in language, anthropology, art history, literature, history, politics, and economics. You can enroll in either five or six, three-credit courses per semester, for a total of 15-18 hours of credit. Six credits must be in Spanish language at a level that matches your proficiency. Courses are taught exclusively in Spanish, by Spanish professors. Therefore, the program requires that you have 4 semesters (or the equivalent level of proficiency) of Spanish to enroll. But, theres no reason to be intimidated! The courses were designed with the specific needs of the non-native speaker of Spanish in mind. Class sizes are small (typically under 30-35 students per class) and you will find the instructors to be both knowledgeable and approachable. Because much of your learning will take place outside of the classroom, you will be encouraged to participate in the many field study activities sponsored by the Fundación.
Credits and Grades
Fall and spring semester: 15-18 credits
Admission Requirements
GPA Requirements: 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
Four semesters of college-level Spanish or the equivalent. You must be in good academic standing and not on disciplinary probation. You need to submit a complete application including a transcript, letter of recommendation from a Spanish faculty member, and an advisor's form before your application will be considered.
The Fundacion is located in the heart of the old city of Toledo. Besides being conveniently located less than one hour south of Madrid, Toledo is one of the seven most visited places in the world and represents one of the best-preserved medieval cities in the world.
If the idea of studying in a former 16th century convent in the heart of the historical district of one of Spain's loveliest and most culturally-rich cities appeals to you, the widely-respected Fundación José Ortega y Gasset in Toledo is a good choice. The Fundación's location puts you within walking distance to some of Spain's most noteworthy synagogues, mosques, and churches; all symbols of centuries when these cultures Jewish, Muslim, and Christian coexisted in comparative harmony, giving Toledo the name "La Capital de las Tres Culturas."
