It is an intensive and excellent study of Japanese Buddhism and culture.
"The program was the best learning experience of my life, both academically and personally. Throughout the trip you learn a lot about your personal views and how others view your society."
"I had access to members of parliaments, NGOs, and many other organizations and people that I never would have been able to meet otherwise . . . This has given me a really well rounded look at politics, economics, and sociology in a really fascinating part of the world."
“This program is really unique and I learned even more than I expected to. It provides opportunities to meet with people and organizations that would be virtually impossible otherwise. It provides a wonderful balance between an academic approach, thanks to the university lectures, and the realities of the issues discussed through the meetings with relevant politicians, organizations, and activists. The program is more academically rigorous than I think most study abroad programs and by the end you really feel as though you have a strong handle on some very contemporary and poignant international issues.”
“The on-site instructors, from dance, to traditional cloth-dyeing, to music, etc. were absolutely fantastic, both in their instruction and in their patience.”
“My homestay family was extremely generous and lovely – they enjoyed meeting other students and took really great care of us.”
This program allowed me to spend a full year as a normal student in Germany, and I didn’t have to worry about taking care of housing, documents, or anything. The level of freedom was excellent, and I was not treated like an international exchange students, which is the feeling I get from most programs.
Somewhere near the end of the semester, I was sitting in class with a very Schwäbisch teacher who speaks REALLY fast. And it hit me, ‘I totally understand what he’s saying,’ and it reminded me how far I’ve come.
I learned more in this semester than I have in all my college career. I grew inside and out. I began to learn about myself and respect myself. It was educational, intense, personal, wonderful!
There is no greater challenge than jumping into a movement as it is happening. On this program we don't just observe what feminists are doing around the world, we do it with them.
