After 46 years of operating summer programs for youth in Latin America, AMIGOS is thrilled to open its first ever Gap Year Program in Nicaragua in fall 2012. This program is designed for students who wish to gain an extended international volunteer experience before or during college.
Participants will become a part of a Nicaraguan host community, collaborate and serve as an intern with an international community development organization, and work to be a catalyst for social change.
* Live with a host family in a community or city with one other Volunteer partner
* Serve as an intern with a local or international community development organization
* Collaborate with youth and community members to organize service projects and facilitate extra-curricular activities
* Create multimedia projects to track and share progress (videos, blogs, etc.)
* Attend 2-day workshops with other Volunteers each month
* Independent research proposals will be considered
Applicants must have completed high school and have 3 years of high school Spanish or equivalent conversational ability. This program is designed for students who wish to gain an extended international volunteer experience before or during college.
