The South American country of Chile stretches 2,800 miles from the Atacama Desert in the north to glaciers and fjords in the south. About 125 miles wide, Chile lies between the Pacific Ocean to the west and the Andes to the east. Although its population is mainly European in origin, there remains an indigenous presence a few hours south of Santiago. Gaining its independence from Spain in 1818, Chile's agriculture and mining industries have helped Chile be an economically dynamic country from early in its history. In 1973, Santiago was the hub of the military coup that brought General Augusto Pinochet to power. While his 17-year dictatorship brought brutal repression to the country, today Chile is a prosperous democracy. Chile is well-known for its wines, skiing and beaches.
Santiago is beautifully set in a wide plain with the backdrop of the Andes and lots of public gardens sprinkled throughout the city. About 4 million people live in this modern city full of skyscrapers and traffic. Santiago offers the comforts and cultural activities of a big city and is close to beaches, mountains and Chile's lake district. In this wonderful city we can organize customized internships in the professional area of your choice. Just make sure you write a convincing motivation letter so no company can resist you!
Even though Chile is for the most part a very modern and developed country, there is no social system to take care of the less advantaged. Your help will be inexpendable in the daycare for the poor and the hospital. Your visit and attention to the elderly who don't have many family members who visit them will brighten their monotonous days. Further, you can teach English at public schools or organize job-skill workshops at the community center.

Our mantra is "Every Language, Every Culture, Everywhere." AmeriSpan Study Abroad has over 15 years experience and over 30,000 past participants. Our staff has three passions: language, culture, and travel. Individually and as a group, we have accumulated experiences and knowledge related to these passions. AmeriSpan's staff has traveled to more than 65 countries, every continent except Antarctica, speak 10 languages, and we are happy to share this enormous amount of relevant knowledge with you. Every staff member has studied and/or lived abroad for extended periods of time. We are neither a language school nor a travel agent, we're a hybrid of the two: a language travel organization. AmeriSpan has evaluated hundreds of schools, host families and destinations to determine which programs to offer, and our independence allows us to give you unbiased evaluations of these programs. Our pledge to our participants is to make going abroad 'worry-free'. There is no risk in choosing an AmeriSpan program because you'll get the best program, best price and can cancel for any reason and get a full refund on every dollar we have received for your program.
