  • Description

Cambodia shares borders with Thailand, Laos and Vietnam and has its Western Coast on the Gulf of Thailand. The tropical climate attracts travelers to its pristine beaches, relaxed countryside and mountain villages. Cambodia has recently woken up from a turbulent political past and is becoming a burgeoning tourist destination, offering the incredible lessons of its past as well as a glimpse into its future. Though still a poor country, tourism has helped in shaping its new economy and the people of Cambodia welcome visitors with open arms.

Along with its amazing history, travelers can enjoy the country's natural beauty, numerous temples and bustling cities as well as the cultures and people. The country is entirely tropical and has two seasons, the wet season from May through October and the dry from November through April. The Khmer make up the ethnic majority, but there are still various hill tribe cultures that comprise Cambodia's population. Most of the country is religious with about 95% Theravadan Buddhists. A traveler here will certainly appreciate the beauty of the Cambodian countryside as well as the religious artistry throughout.

Siem Reap is the main destination for volunteers in this program. The first week will take place near Siem Reap in a village called Samraong and will be dedicated to learning about the culture and language, then volunteers will begin work in their specific placements. Volunteers can work in schools, medical centers and other community initiatives to help bring much needed change to a country that is still emerging from its turbulent history.

  • AmeriSpan Study Abroad's Mission Statement

Our mantra is "Every Language, Every Culture, Everywhere." AmeriSpan Study Abroad has over 15 years experience and over 30,000 past participants. Our staff has three passions: language, culture, and travel. Individually and as a group, we have accumulated experiences and knowledge related to these passions. AmeriSpan's staff has traveled to more than 65 countries, every continent except Antarctica, speak 10 languages, and we are happy to share this enormous amount of relevant knowledge with you. Every staff member has studied and/or lived abroad for extended periods of time. We are neither a language school nor a travel agent, we're a hybrid of the two: a language travel organization. AmeriSpan has evaluated hundreds of schools, host families and destinations to determine which programs to offer, and our independence allows us to give you unbiased evaluations of these programs. Our pledge to our participants is to make going abroad 'worry-free'. There is no risk in choosing an AmeriSpan program because you'll get the best program, best price and can cancel for any reason and get a full refund on every dollar we have received for your program.
