The Mexico Academic Teen program is open to high school juniors and seniors (sophomores will be accepted on a case by case basis), as well as high school Spanish teachers. It is ideal for students with an international focus such as those enrolled in an International Baccalaureate high school. It is especially appropriate for student who want to achieve high scores on AP exams or placement exams upon entering college. Also, for those who wish to earn some Spanish credits before they enter college, transfer credits are available from the University of Southern Mississippi.
The program takes place in Cuernavaca, Mexico located about 50 miles south of Mexico City and is run by Cemanahuac Educational Community, a highly respected, fully-equipped Spanish institute that has been providing quality language programs to the educational community for over 10 years.
The main goal of the program is to give teenagers a chance to learn and improve their Spanish in preparation for the AP exam, or to earn early college credit. The following is included in the program costs:
* Placement and final exams
* 4 hrs/day Spanish classes (maximum of 5 students per class)
* Afternoon cultural activities
* Weekend field study trips
* Shared room and board with a Mexican family
* Adult supervision is provided by the host family and the school staff in the form of curfew.
* Airport pick-up and return (included only during certain hours and only on the Saturday before/after the program. Transportation may be provided outside of these dates/times for an additional $100 per direction).
* Secure AmeriSpan services (travel insurance, travel assistance, emergency message service, factsheets on Mexico...)
