School Facilities: The school facilities are located in a local high school and include indoor classrooms, computer lab, large gardens, a swimming pool, a soccer field, and basketball and volleyball courts. Students stay with a host family and breakfast and dinner are provided daily. Lunch is also included and will be at various local restaurants in the afternoon.

Activities/Excursions: Daily afternoon activities and weekend excursions are included. Examples include: dance classes, cooking class, visits to local areas of interest. Supervision: This is a very structured program with many activities. Outside of class time students are always supervised. • Highlights

Known as the Switzerland of Central America, Costa Rica has an abundance of natural beauty and is populated by a friendly, well-educated people. Costa Rica has obtained the highest standard of living in Central America by embracing democracy and disbanding its army. This small country is a paradise for nature lovers with national parks, jungles, volcanoes, beaches, and more water per square mile than any other country in the world, excluding New Zealand. However, the small pre-Columbian indigenous population was wiped out by diseases brought to the new world by the conquistadors.

Heredia (pop 50,000) is located 6 miles north of San Jose. The city and its surrounding areas provide all the conveniences of a medium-sized city in an environment which has escaped, to a large extent, the normal urban problems affecting the capital. The city has a surprisingly youthful and active feeling despite its small size. This is due to the presence of many young Costa Ricans attending the National University. Costa Rica's famous coffee plantations surround Heredia where one can still see ox carts loaded with coffee beans.

Our mantra is "Every Language, Every Culture, Everywhere." AmeriSpan Study Abroad has over 15 years experience and over 30,000 past participants. Our staff has three passions: language, culture, and travel. Individually and as a group, we have accumulated experiences and knowledge related to these passions. AmeriSpan's staff has traveled to more than 65 countries, every continent except Antarctica, speak 10 languages, and we are happy to share this enormous amount of relevant knowledge with you. Every staff member has studied and/or lived abroad for extended periods of time. We are neither a language school nor a travel agent, we're a hybrid of the two: a language travel organization. AmeriSpan has evaluated hundreds of schools, host families and destinations to determine which programs to offer, and our independence allows us to give you unbiased evaluations of these programs. Our pledge to our participants is to make going abroad 'worry-free'. There is no risk in choosing an AmeriSpan program because you'll get the best program, best price and can cancel for any reason and get a full refund on every dollar we have received for your program.
