AIFS Summer Study in South Africa - Service Learning

South Africa
Share |

Location
South Africa: Stellenbosch

Term
Summer

Dates
June - July

  • Description

Join the summer service learning program in South Africa and experience the wonder of Stellenbosch--South Africa's second oldest city. This attractive city is just 30 minutes away from Cape Town. Studying and living in this culture and art-rich city will give you more reasons to appreciate international learning.

Once enrolled, AIFS students take 4 weeks of courses in English at Stellenbosch University in Service Learning, African studies, art, business, economics, geography, history, law, literature, political science, sociology, and viticulture.

AIFS program fees include the basics and the extras: tuition, housing, some meals, excursions and cultural activities, airfare if selected, 6-day Garden Route tour, visit to the Cederberg Mountains, and more.

  • Highlights

Attend courses with more than 400 international students from other African countries and around the world.

Earn up to 7 credits on one of two programs, a Traditional Program where you can choose from a range of courses taught in English or gain a greater understanding of the current challenges that South Africa faces on the Service Learning Program.

Take in more of the local culture on a vineyard and wine tasting tour and see the impressive sites of the South African coastline on a 6-day tour of the Garden Route. Depending on your course selection, enjoy day trips to Cape Town, Robben Island, Swellendam Mountains or the Cape of Good Hope.

Stellenbosch, South Africa's second oldest town, after Cape Town, is in the world's most beautiful wine country: the Jonkershoek Valley on the southern tip. Superb beaches are a half hour away. Scenic mountains nearly 5,000 feet high form a spectacular backdrop to the town. Stellenbosch is host to music, theater and the arts; art galleries, restaurants, shops and hotels dot oak-lined streets, while numerous parks, gardens, nature reserves and playing fields contribute to the town's beauty. The Mediterranean-like climate is temperate year round, making it the ideal location for outdoor activities.
