    The Mini-Adventure programme offers the opportunity for people who want to explore the beauty of Ghana, its rich culture and peace-loving people. Alive Foundation has therefore designed it for volunteers, students, professionals, retirees and individuals to experience the true Ghanaian lifestyle.

    Under the programme, participants stay with a host family in a carefully selected rural area, 30km radius from Kumasi, the capital city of Ashanti Region- the hub of rich Ghanaian culture. In the village stay participants have the opportunity of engaging in the daily activities of the host family and the village at large.

    This is a very unique programme because it offers the opportunity to study the true lifestyle of the Ghanaian village and its experience with renowned hospitality.

  • Highlights

    Day 01: Arrival at Kotoka International Airport. Receive and Transfer to hostel/office.

    Day 02 : Orientation begins. An orientation course will be held on topics such as host family conditions, climatic conditions, safety issues and other related topics.

    Day 03/04 : A Ghanaian language class begins. Participants would be taken through a Ghanaian language classes to enable them learn speaking the language. This will help you to practice the local language of your host family and that of the village you will stay.

    Day 05-Day 18 : Village transfer. After a two-day Ghanaian language study, participants will be transferred from the hostel to stay with the host family in the carefully selected small village of the Ashanti region for the next 2 weeks. Participants will partake in the day-to-day activities of the host family in the village which include: working on the farm with the host family to experience the traditional ways of farming and cooking, visiting a local palm-wine taper to experience how palm wine is extracted from palm tree. (Palm wine is a local wine obtained from palm trees), participating in the traditional ceremonies, assisting host family members in preparing meals, practicing local language with the people and sharing your background and culture with your host family members.

    Day 19 : Explore the craft villages in Kumasi. Visit craft villages like Bonwire (origin of Kente cloth), Ahwiaa to see some magnificent carved figures, Ntonso to see some Adinkra textile prints.

    Day 20 : Cultural tour of Kumasi. Visit the Manhyia palace Museum; watch a film presentation that introduces you to the rich culture, history and the wealth of the Ashanti King. Visit the durbar grounds of chiefs, exchange greetings with chiefs and the Great King and interact with the King to experience the Ashanti chieftaincy and culture.

    Day 21 : Program wrap-up. Free day for shopping, etc.

    Day 22 : Drop off at the airport for departure from Ghana.

    What's Included in the Programme Fee:

    i) Airport Pick-up/ Drop-Off:Participants will be met on arrival and also drop for departure at the airport. Note: Participants should communicate fright schedules to us to enable us meet you at the airport at the right time.

    ii) In-Country Orientation An orientation course will be organized for the participants to introduce them to the programme. The orientation course will be held on topics such as host family conditions, climatic conditions, safety issues, religion, culture and other related topics.

    iii) All Ground Transport (applicable during Programme schedules)

    iv) Food: The fee paid covers three meals in a day- breakfast, lunch and dinner. The food will be nutritious, healthy and locally available.

    v) Accommodation: Participants will stay either in a single room or shared room in a clean, comfortable and decent hostel. All the rooms have electricity, good toilet facilities, bath rooms, cabinet and other necessary room facilities.

    vi) 24 Hours Staff Support: While the participants enjoying the services that we provide to them, we remain voted to maintain the safety of our participants. As such, we provide a comprehensive staff support to the participants any time a participant is enrolled in our programme.

  • Alive Foundation's Mission Statement

    Alive Foundation is a voluntary non-governmental and non-profit making organization based in Kumasi, the Garden City of West Africa- Ghana. It was founded by a group of volunteers who set out to bring the resources of Ghana and the International community to the most deprived communities of Ghana. The organization is registered with the Registrar Generals Department, as a Non-Governmental Organization (N.G.O.) and it has been incorporated into the Ghana Companies Code 1963 (ACT 179) and issued with certificate number G. 12, 984. The organization is also registered with the Department of Social Welfare with Registration number D.S.W. / 2172. The mission of Alive Foundation is to bridge the wide gap in education, health and community development that exist between cities, towns and villages in Ghana through volunteer services. We believe that volunteers from within and outside a community can play a critical role in correcting this imbalance of resources that exist in our rural areas.
