Teach English with AIDE Abroad's Immersion Program!

Turkey
Share |

Location
Turkey: Istanbul

Length of Position
1 - 3 months

  • Description

Embark on the adventure of your life and teach English in Turkey. Dip your toes in the warm waters off the Mediterranean coast, explore the outdoors, or head to Istanbul, one of the most stylish and atmospheric cities in the world. Experience for yourself the place where East and West come together while living with a Turkish family and teach English in exchange for room and board. In return you will spend 10 hours a week, Monday through Friday, teaching English to the members of the host family. You will have weekends and the rest of the time free to sightsee, learn about Turkish culture and make new friends!

Location: Most participants will be placed in residential areas in Istanbul. Please be prepared to take public transportation into the city if you are placed in the suburbs.

    Length of program:
This program is for 1-3 months, depending on the participant's flexibility.

Start Dates: Positions are available throughout the summertime, between mid-May and the end of August. However, we cannot guarantee a specific start date as they are always subject to the host family's availability and schedule. Program start date will be announced once your placement has been confirmed. Participants must apply at least 3 months in advance of arrival. Participants interested in another time of year should check availability.

You will be given a single room and meals at your host family's house, in exchange for 10-15 hours of English language coaching and instruction.

We will send you pre-departure orientation materials to help prepare you for your time in Turkey and give you suggestions on teaching ESL. We also recommend researching ESL teaching methods and lesson plans so that you are ready when you arrive at your host family's house.

Throughout your stay, you will be provided with the name and email addresses of the other Language Assistants in your area. This offers you an instant network of people you can ask advice from, socialize with, or travel around Turkey with.

Participants may travel independently, or with family. Most of the Turkish families also have summer houses in the Aegean and Mediterranean coast of Turkey and the family can ask the participant to join the summer holiday with them.
