The goal of these animal sanctuaries is to re-introduce endangered species to their natural habitat. The facilities provide rehabilitation for injured and abandoned animals, as well as cultivate trees and native plants through reforestation projects. Volunteers can help feed and socialize the animals, build and repair cages and enclosures, and work with the sanctuary on any other ongoing projects. The animals found in the sanctuaries include monkeys, sloths, porcupines, kinkajous, raccoons, anteaters, alligators, turtles, and many types of exotic birds. Volunteers should be sensitive to animals and the environment and be willing to learn about environmental conservation and preserving local species.
Program participants will have the opportunity to fully immerse themselves in Tico culture and pura vida, the relaxing way of life that has made Costa Rica famous. While volunteering in Costa Rica, you can explore the astonishing biodiversity for which this Central American country is known. Whether your interest is hiking, kayaking, snorkeling, surfing, zip-lining, exploring the clod forest and waterfalls, or just relaxing on the beach, you will be able to combine some or all of these with your volunteer program.
Applications are due 3 months prior to departure. If you're submitting your application within 2 months of departure, contact us to verify availability.
