After a one week induction course covering safety, security, teaching techniques and Nepali language lessons, volunteers will spend 3 months living and working with the Lepcha tribe in the Darjeeling District of North-East India. A wonderfully unique experience for cultural exchange - learning about the traditions, language, cooking, songs, dancing and archery skills of the Lepcha people. Spend mornings and evenings in Lepcha Night schools teaching English to villagers and learning about Lepcha history in return. Daytime is spent in the local primary school teaching children English and helping to improve their confidence.
The project is finished with an optional additional four week period of independent travel and the chance to explore more of India or venture to Nepal for some trekking - all supported by our 24 hour in-country representative.
A unique opportunity to see an amazing community and to completely immerse into their way of life, away from the Western world. A truly life-changing experience.
Volunteers must be able to speak English, be enthusiastic, adaptable, committed and resilient (and have a sense of humor!).
