  • Description

    The BERUDEP Sponsor an Orphan Project is a non-profit initiative run by the Belo Rural Development Organization (BERUDEP) in cooperation with Afri-Link. We have two local staff which are employed as field workers and we are seeking for a volunteer to assist them in their day to day activities to support the 58 orphans and their host families.

    Your tasks are:
    - Liaising between BERUDEP, orphans, schools and hospitals
    - Counseling about education, health and hygiene to orphans and host families
    - Teaching three afternoons per week in the After School Education Programme
    - Food distribution and monthly field visits
    - Hospital visits for medical checkups and when sick
    - Simple accounting
    - Support Project Supervisor with grant application/fundraising
    Additionally the volunteer field worker will take over the daily ARV visits in the evening.

    Please note that there is no orphanage. The orphans live with relatives in family compounds and mud huts scattered across a rural part of North West Cameroon. The working week is Monday to Saturday (44 hours) although you will be in control of your own timetable in conjunction with the local fieldworkers.

    This is an extremely rewarding position which allows the volunteer to work and interact on a daily basis with the local community in the rural villages of the beautiful North West Cameroon. Volunteer fieldworkers work closely alongside paid local staff. Support and guidance is provided in a friendly environment by both local and international staff. This is an established project.

    The successful applicant is 21 years or older and has a commitment to helping people, be highly motivated and enthusiastic. A background in social work or teaching is beneficial. A minimum stay of 3 months is required.

  • Program Fees Include:

    This position is a volunteer position only that means there is no salary and the volunteer is responsible for living costs, transportation to Belo in Cameroon, insurance, vaccinations and other personal expenses.

    - Administration fee: An administration fee of 300 Euro must be paid by all volunteers upon arrival
    - Euro for 5-11 months and 110 Euro for 12 months or longer)
    - Accommodation (incl. electricity): 30,000CFA monthly
    - Cleaning/washing clothes:10,000CFA monthly (if required)
    - Cook: 25,000CFA monthly (if required)
    - Food: appr. 1000CFA daily (depending on own preferences)

    Pick-up and payment
    Pick-up from the airport (in Douala or Yaounde) can be arranged. The costs for the BERUDEP staff who will pick you up from the airport is included in the above-mentioned administration fee. No fees have to be paid in advance, only upon arrival in the BERUDEP office.
