Location

Program Duration
2-4 weeks, 5-8 weeks, 9-12 weeks

Typical Duration of Program
9-12 weeks

  • Description

The voluntary work takes place in Kampong Langsat in the Papar district where you will be living with our partner close to the rain forest surrounded by small villages. Here you have the opportunity to help the locals by teaching them English. Your main focus will be on the children, however, some of the older inhabitants will also have an interest in learning the language.

A tropical paradise awaits you at the world's third largest island in Malaysia. The old country of the headhunters. The capital, Kota Kinabalu has a promenade, cafes, funny places to eat and not least the paradise islands off the coast. After meeting the capital awaits a wealth of nature experiences from north to south in Sabah province, which has it all. From the Tip of Borneo, where you see the impressive meeting between the Chinese South Sea and Sulu Sea, climb the highest mountain in Borneo Kota Kinabalu, bathe in the Poring Hot Springs and receive a fantastic experience with orangutans at Sepilok Centre on the eastern side of Borneo.

On the extended Borneo trip you experience paradisaical beaches, turquoise blue water, a different form of rock climbing, sailing in the jungle with orangutans, nasal monkeys and birds of various species; a drum village, a wealth of orchids in all colors, varieties and sizes, waterfalls, hot springs, exotic plants, national parks and maybe pygmy elephants. You get one special cultural experience when you spend the night at a Rungus family in their longhouse and spend the night "on the first floor ", sit on the floor for dinner and take part in their fun games and maybe buy their beautiful pearl jewelry. When you are at the top of Kota Kinabalu, you can be proud as a pope for your effort.

A big part of you job will be to motivate the children to learn e.g. through games, songs, dancing, art, or whatever else you might think of. Only the imagination sets boundaries when your trying to get children to learn as much as possible.

Besides, you can help the village by teaching them in areas which they have only little knowledge about. First of all you might be able to teach them about personal hygiene and perhaps also some of the survival skills which you learned in the jungle.
