  • Description

Intern in a busy, fast-paced environment in a travel agency or tour company in Beijing. Adelante is launching a new International Internship Program for Autumn in China. For the independent person looking to experience living and working in this exciting city and culture, this program is ideal.

Adelante is beginning a pilot program in Beijing with two start dates and three choices of program length. Choose to begin the first Monday of September or October and stay for one, two or three months.

Beijing, the capital of China, is a mix of ancient past and new modern development. It is the cultural, educational, political, economic and international trade centre of the country. Beijing's history and ancient sites make it a popular tourist destination for both Chinese and international travelers.

Participating in an Adelante Internship Program in Beijing will give you a unique opportunity to experience the life and culture of the city, not as a tourist, but living and working alongside the local Chinese people. At the same time you will add invaluable international work experience to your resume.

On arrival in Beijing you will be met at the airport and taken to your housing, which is included in the program cost. Housing is your own room in a shared apartment with other international students or you can choose to live with a local Chinese national. You will then participate in two weeks of intensive Mandarin classes followed by your internship placement.

Our travel agency internships are a good opportunity for many majors, including Marketing, Communications and Events, Public Relations and Anthropology too! Busy settings in small, Chinese owned, rapidly growing tour firms or travel agencies. Candidates should expect plenty of work, not too much structure and a sense of "getting the job done no matter what it takes" in these fast paced settings.

Visas are required to enter China - Adelante will assist in the process to acquire a visa before embarking on your adventure.

For our pilot program this autumn we only have a limited number of spots available. So get your application in soon.

  • Highlights

One of the big benefits of an Adelante program is that we will do all the work to arrange everything required for your adventure to live and intern in China. Once there, you will have contact with a local Adelante Director who is a Chinese national, fluent in both Mandarin and English. Both he and the main office in California are available for advice and support but candidates are expected to have an independent experience living, working and travelling in the city.

    This great program includes:
    * airport pickup on arrival and transportation to your housing
    * orientation
    * 2 weeks of intensive Mandarin classes
    * housing - your own room in a modern, fully equipped shared apartment
    * placement in an internship in your chosen sector (usually 4 hours a day)
    * this can be an academic program

  • Qualifications

Program candidates should be 18 or older and possess a desire to learn about and live in another culture. Candidates should be at college level or graduate level, though we have some "gap-year" candidates.

Qualities required are: ability to work independently, dependability for your work assignment, courage for your international living abroad experience and openness to all the new people and experiences you will encounter.

Prior Mandarin skills are not required. Mandarin language classes are included in the program.
