With housing, meals, health insurance, excursions, laundry, tutoring, tuition, academic credits and so much more included in the cost of the program, we strive to make your experience in Salamanca the best time of your life. The university's 30,000 Spanish students have the opportunity to receive degrees in 58 different areas of specialty. In addition, 7,000 international students take Language and Culture classes or classes with Spaniards. To further their studies, all students have access to the library within their department as well as to the Santa Maria de los Angeles Library and the General Library. These are extraordinary libraries, beckoning scholars from around the world. On the weekends, students take advantage of the famous nightlife of Salamanca!
A small city of almost 200,000, Salamanca is only 2.5 hours from Madrid by train. The city is always bustling with residents, students and tourists. The Plaza Mayor, undoubtedly the most beautiful in Spain, is the center of activity. Busy at all hours of the day and night, it is host to many shops, restaurants, cafes, and casual strollers. Residents and visitors can enjoy a breathtaking view of the 'Golden City' from across the Tormes on the rivers' left bank. Crossing the river over the ancient Roman bridge, one finds the famous 'bull' mentioned in El Lazarillo de Tormes, that forms part of the coat of arms of the city. Next to the bridge is the rebuilt 12th Century Church of Santiago (Saint James), with three half-Romanesque, half-Mudejar apses. Continuing up the street called 'Tentenecio' (quiet!), is the Old Cathedral, a creation of Jeronimo de Perigueux, the chaplain of El Cid. If there's one thing Salamanca is not, it's a sleepy little town. In fact, Salamanca is famous throughout Spain for the countless number of bars and clubs that line streets throughout the areas around the Plaza Mayor and beyond. Beginning around 8PM, the area around the Plaza starts to buzz with activity as people take a stroll, return from class, or buy groceries for their dinners. By midnight the bars and clubs begin to fill and Salamanca comes alive.
