Pompeu Fabra University (Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Catalan) was established by the Catalonian Parliament in 1990, inspired by the principles of freedom, democracy, justice, equality, independence and plurality. From its beginnings, this young academic institution has set itself two main objectives: to train professionals and citizens who are responsible and committed to civic values, and to contribute towards the development of research. The university is named after Pompeu Fabra, the man who laid down the standards of the modern Catalan language.

Upper level students can study Spanish language, Hispanic studies courses (in English and Spanish), and participate in classes with native Spanish speakers in this special program. There are also innovative summer programs in film studies and nationalism studies!
