  • Description

The summer program in Cannes, France, has a senior level (16-19 years) and a strong emphasis on academics, specifically: French language, culture, history, and art. This is a campus program; the students live and study on the centrally located campus of Centre International de Cannes. Together with their international peers, students enjoy program activities, as well as weekend excursions to the most spectacular sites of the Riviera. During the final week of the program, students go on a one-week trip to the Loire Valley and Paris. There is no formal requirement of French proficiency, although a minimal knowledge of French is highly recommended.

    - Academics
The curriculum includes intensive French language classes for all levels and elective classes on French culture, art, literature, and history. Instruction is given by CIC faculty and Abbey Road staff members. The language classes typically take place in the morning, from 9 am to 12 noon, while electives take place in the early afternoon.

    - Housing
Students live in a college dormitory, on the beautiful CIC campus, two steps away from the nearest beach and a 10 minute walk from downtown Cannes. The campus is equipped with athletic and recreational facilities, as well as a computer lab and a theater auditorium. Students share rooms with their international and American peers.

    - Daily Activities
In the afternoons and evenings, Abbey Road students enjoy many athletic and recreational activities: watersports, movies, shopping, concerts, museums, outdoor cafes and many other local offerings. On Saturdays and Sundays, students go on day-trips to some of the most beautiful sites of the French Riviera: Monaco, St. Tropez, Grasse and its famous perfume factory, the perched villages of St. Paul and Gourdon, Nice and its Old Town, and many others.

  • Highlights

    The Travel Extension-
The travel extension takes place during the final week of the program. Students spend two days in the Loire Valley, exploring the chateaux of Chambord, Chenonceaux, Blois and others. They will also have a docent-guided visit of one of the most magnificent cathedrals in the world'the cathedral of Chartres. The students spend one night in Blois, in a three-star hotel in the town center, and enjoy the evening sound and light show at the Chateau de Blois.

Then the group spends five days in Paris where they stay in modern three-star hotels in the center of the city, two steps away from the cathedral of Notre-Dame, in the heart of the Latin Quarter. Students explore the museums of Louvre, d'Orsay, Picasso, Rodin, and the Centre Pompidou. They also visit the beautiful neighborhoods of Marais, Quartier Latin, Bastille, and Saint Germain-de-Pras, take a boat tour on the River Seine, have a picnic in the Jardin du Luxembourg, and have plenty of time to experience the beauty of the City of Lights.
