Au pairs are required to help with childcare - for example getting the children up in the morning and giving them breakfast, taking/collecting from school, after school care etc. Light household chores are also required including dusting, cleaning, vacuuming, ironing and simple cooking.
Mothers helps are required to help with childcare - usually on a more full time basis -hence they may be required to take care of younger children throughout the day. They will also be required to help with housework including simple cooking, vaccuming, washing, cleaning and ironing.
Au pairs receive bed and board and pocket money of around 55 GBP per week in return for 25 hours childcare plus up to two evenings babysitting per week. They generally have weekends free plus other time during the week in which to study English. An au pair 'plus' would work around 35-40 hours per week and receive upwards of 65 GBP per week depending on hours/free time.
Mothers helps also receive bed and board and are paid around 150-200 GBP per week. They generally have one full day a week and do not require free time to study.
Applicants should have basic childcare experience. This can include babysitting for younger siblings/family members or perhaps looking after neighbours/friends children. Working on summer camps or work experience in a kindergarten/school is also acceptable.
Au pairs must be 17 to 27 years of age, single with no dependents. There is no age limit for mothers helps - they can be married with children however it would not be possible for the applicant to take her children with her to the place of work.
Au pairs earn around 55 GBP per week and mother's helps around 150-200 GBP
