South Africa has been called the adventure capital of the world, with its natural beauty and wildlife that leaves visitors awe-struck. The rich culture, the freedom struggle and the friendly people make this a fascinating nation to explore. With the sounds of the African drum beat; the bright sun, stars and city streets; the natural beauty of the landscape, South Africa is an inviting location and safe for volunteering projects.
South Africa is an invigorating and multifaceted country. With its post-apartheid struggle still evident, there is a sense of energy and progress in the air. The infrastructure is continuously improving, the weather is pleasant and the wildlife opportunities leave visitors awe-struck. But if you want to understand South Africa, you'll have to deal with the full spectrum; poverty and the AIDS orphan pandemic
Our programs provide the opportunity to participate in the social and academic development of orphan children and young people. By living and working among the people you'll be able to appreciate the complexity of the nation's past and present, and help to give the younger generation the tools they need for the future.
Contribute your time as a teaching assistant in a pre-school and creche center for orphans. Get involved with the motivation and development of young people's lives and ultimately help to bridge gaps and influence change in the "New South Africa".
Our programs allow you to take part in meaningful community service work, while discovering the people, sights, smells and tastes of South Africa.
This is a great opportunity to make life-long friends, learn a new culture from the inside out and discover that one person really can make a difference. Volunteer with us and see A Broader View of the World.
Volunteer Abroad in Tembisa South Africa: Abroaderview projects are based in the township of Tembisa, and volunteers will be housed with local families in the city of Clayville. This is a secured modern home with internet, eletricity, fully furnished, and within walking distance to most of the programs. The location is situated between Johannesburg and Pretoria about 15 minutes from Oliver Tambo International Airport.
Tembisa is the largest township situated to the north of Kempton Park , and established in 1957 when Africans were resettled from other surrounding areas. The name Tembisa comes from the Zulu word "Thembisa" meaning "There is Hope". It came about when black settlers of Johannesburg were being evicted. When the township was created it was a beacon of hope for those who were suddenly homeless.
Tembisa is estimated to have a population of more than 2.5 million people where almost half of its population is made up of foreign immigrants/refugees from South Africa's neighboring countries (Zimbabwe, Mozambique and Malawi). The majority of this foreign population are undocumented immigrants who left their country of origin due to unfavorable political and economic conditions.
Although South Africa had its own HIV/AIDS prevalence issues dating back to the early 80s, the pandemic was further increased by this influx of unidentified cases of HIV/AIDS settlements in its townships. By the late 2000s, this disease had claimed millions of lives leaving South Africa with an estimated 5.4 million people living with HIV of which 300,000 are children from age 0-14 years.
Our projects are primarily focus on child care, education support and also health/medical needs at HIV Home Base Care centers.
With our volunteer programs we allow you to discover the wonders of South Africa, while doing meaningful and rewarding community work. This is a great opportunity to explore life in a beautiful African region, live and work amongst the locals and realize one person can make a difference.
