The Elephant Transit Home was established in 1995 at the Udawalawe National Park by the Department of Wildlife Conservation in Sri Lanka (DWLC) with the objective of rehabilitating and reintroducing orphaned elephants back into the wild. The Elephant Transit Home currently has juvenile elephants in its care and is internationally acclaimed for its methods. The orphaned elephants are held in a large, jungle environment and have minimal contact with humans in order to make their eventual release into the wild a success.
Dilmah Conservation was established by Dilmah Tea in 2007, an extension of the ethical, family company's commitment to making its business a matter of human service. With the involvement and support of IUCN, the International Union for Conservation of Nature Dilmah Conservation is working towards more sustainable and responsible human interaction with the environment. Dilmah Conservation assists DWLC in establishing facilities for the treatment of injured and sick elephants and a Information Centre with the objective of sharing with students, researchers and tourists alike, information about the elephant whilst explaining the conflict and fuelling debate on how it might naturally be circumvented.
The Intern will participate in a variety of general tasks and operations of the program, in addition to following Responsibilities:
* Coordinating Elephant Transit home & National park assistance
* Setting up of Milk making and feeding programme and water heating system
* Setting up of milk powder sales system
* Setting up and running of the souvenir sales outlets at ETH and Park entrance
* Assisting the village development programme
* Coordinating school and village extension programmes
* Assisting the craft village programme
We are looking for a young, enthusiastic individual who is versatile and passionate towards nature & wildlife with adequate knowledge to handle an environmental & conservation/community project to work as a coordinator to the Udawalawe Elephant Transit Programme run by Dilmah Conservation.
Facilitating fee is USD 460 per month.
