Our summer program in Valladolid is more than a Spanish language course- it's like a seminar in how to live a Spanish life. This ancient town, far from the beaten tourist track, offers each student their own personal cultural revelation. Eligibility: Students must be at least 18 years old and have completed high school at the time of the course. No previous experience with the Spanish language is required.

Pre-Departure Information: Before students embark on their trip abroad, they will be provided a pre-departure handbook that includes important details about their program. In addition to the handbook, participants may contact World Endeavors with questions at any time.

Housing:

Participants will stay with local Spanish host families. Host families are very welcoming and enjoy having foreign students stay with them. All host family accommodation includes 3 meals per day and laundry. Living in a host family setting is the best way to practice your Spanish outside of the classroom, and participants frequently make friendships that can last a lifetime.

Academics:

The summer sessions are intended to be an intensive language seminar in which participants have the opportunity to learn a great deal of Spanish in a short amount of time. Classes are held for 20 hours per week and cover grammar, conversation, culture, and comprehension. All levels of Spanish students, from beginners to advanced speakers, will be placed in the course that is right for them.

Students who successfully complete the program will receive an academic transcript from the Universidad de Valladolid, a fully-accredited Spanish university. It is the student's responsibility to contact their academic advisor prior to the program to determine how the courses taken while abroad will transfer to their home institution.

In addition, activities are organized in the afternoons and weekends for participants to learn more about the region surrounding Valladolid and Spanish culture. Weekday activities may include: Spanish film viewings, trips to local art museums, Spanish music listening sessions, or a guided architectural walk.

The course also includes 3 Saturday excursions to places of interest around Spain. Excursions are guided by a member of the Art History faculty and are to internationally-recognized locations, some of which are World-Heritage sites.
