Taylor Schultz - Marketing & Social Media Coordinator
Taylor began her work with World Endeavors in 2014 after making the move to Minneapolis. Originally from Seattle, Taylor received her Bachelor's Degree in Cultural Anthropology from Western Washington University. Prior to completing her degree, Taylor studied abroad in Cannes, France, where she fell in love with international education and all things travel-related.
How did you get connected to World Endeavors?
I started with World Endeavors last February, just after moving to the Twin Cities. I was looking for a position that would allow me to put my background in cultural anthropology and passion for travel to good use. World Endeavors provided the perfect opportunity.
You started out as a Program Advisor before moving to your current role as Marketing and Social Media Coordinator. What does a typical day look like for you?
My typical day changes frequently, but generally includes monitoring our social media sites, writing articles for our blog, planning marketing programs, and working with our Campus Ambassadors and Travel Correspondent bloggers.
You speak French and studied abroad at the Collège International de Cannes in Cannes, France during your time as a student at California Lutheran University. How to do you apply the skills you acquired during your time abroad to your current role?
My time in Cannes was really unique. I was abroad during the film festival and had the opportunity to intern with a film production company. Having that type of experience allowed me to further develop my communication skills, and made me a more flexible and independent person. As World Endeavors' Marketing and Social Media Coordinator, I use these skills every day, whether I'm drafting a blog post or working within the constantly-changing world of social media.
You oversee the marketing of all World Endeavors programs, what has been your best strategy for connecting with students?
Each year we're able to attend a number of different study abroad fairs around the United States. These fairs always provide the best opportunity to connect and engage with students.
What sets World Endeavors’ programs apart from others?
I believe it's our personalized support that really makes our programs stand out. From the moment they inquire with us, to the moment our participants return home from their program, our advisors are there every step of the way to ensure that each participant has a meaningful experience abroad.
Your role also entails management of World Endeavors’ social media channels. What’s your favorite platform and why? What do you do to connect with potential participants and alumni across your channels?
I've always had a serious passion for photography, so I have a lot of fun with Instagram. We use quite a few different methods to connect with potential participants and alumni. Some primary methods are publishing alumni stories, sharing updates on our program locations, posting photos of current participants and discussing travel tips.
What’s the most fulfilling part of your role as Marketing and Social Media Coordinator for World Endeavors?
One of my favorite parts about my current role is getting to connect with current participants and alumni. It's so fun to hear stories and see photos from their adventures all over the world!
You worked for three years for the Craft Brew Alliance, what is the best beer you have had around the world?
Spending most of my time in France, I ended up having more wine than beer. Although, Kronenbourg 1664 became a favorite of mine while I was abroad.
As a native Seattleite, what has been the biggest shock of living in Minnesota (other than the winters)?
The brave winter runners and bikers. The day I moved, I think I saw at least 10 different people out running in subzero temperatures.
You’ve done a lot of travel throughout Europe, if you had to hop on a plane today, what non-European nation is next on your wanderlust list?
My list is ever-expanding, but India has been at the top for awhile now. Our Operations Coordinator took over our Instagram account while she spent the holidays in Bangalore over the past couple of weeks. If I hadn't already wanted to go, the photos would have definitely convinced me.
