Franco-phony - An American Girl's (mis)adventures in France

A little humor goes a long way - and for this week's blog of the week, Franco-phony, there is more than enough humor to spare. The blog's author, Katie, is an incoming senior at Marquette University that has moved to France for the semester, and she encouages readers to follow her blog if "you like reading about awkward situations involving baguettes." She is also of the hope that the French have not followed America’s lead and that “that’s what she said” jokes are still funny there. More than having a sense of humor, though, Franco-phony takes readers straight to the source of what it can be like as a student studying abroad and discovering a new culture - documenting every misadventure, mistake and lesson learned along the way!

Why We Love It

In Katie's own words, "tackling study abroad situations with humor and grace (ok, maybe more humor than grace if we're being honest) lets readers follow along an average girl's everyday experiences in France." And for students looking to study abroad, these real-life experiences and honest posts can be a great resource for advice. Katie makes it clear that she is by no means a "travel expert": in fact, she hesitatingly admits that she has forgone fine French cuisine to take a comforting trip to McDonald's. Despite this, we would agree that other student travelers can relate to someone who's studying abroad in a new country, with a new language, and just trying to figure it out as they go (you may even laugh a little too - or a lot like we did.)

From offering first impressions as an international student to mastering classes abroad, the honesty and humor of Franco-phony combine to create a blog you should not miss out on! As a plus, Katie has only recented started this blog, and we're sure there will be many more entertaining posts to come.
