Africa or Bust!
This week's GoAbroad Blog of the Week, Africa or Bust!, comes from two lifelong conservationists who knew they couldn’t just travel and see the sights of Africa as passive tourists, but needed to be involved hands-on in something meaningful and close to their heart. Craig and Kim Young created Africa or Bust! to explain their motivations, document their preparations and travels, and relive every experience. To date they have created multiple posts, tens of thousands of words, and over 1,000 pictures capturing the hard, difficult, but incredibly rewarding time at Antelope Park working hands-on with the lions, as well as the sights they were able to see while in Sabi Sands (including several male coalitions of lions, a full pride with cubs, three different leopards, painted dogs, and a variety of other animal life).
Why We Love It
Africa or Bust! initially was launched by Craig and Kim Young as a way to document their 24,000 mile round-trip to Africa and back on a honeymoon adventure--but we love that it developed into much more than that. As Craig says, "the story of our trip has almost been told in full, but along the way we’ve discovered that our African adventure has really only just begun. So we hope to continue using our blog to explore our plans to return to Africa in the coming year. We have no choice, really. Africa calls to us day in and day out, beckoning us back for more adventures, telling us that our honeymoon with the continent has only started."
The posts and photography of Africa or Bust! serve as a way to encourage others to make similar journeys, to travel and see the world, to become involved, and to find more about themselves along the way. Whether it's images of African wildlife or learning Buddhist lessons in Zimbabwe, there is a range of exciting and educational content on Africa or Bust!
