The Global Theatre Project Blog

The Global Theatre Project (GTP) is a blog with a creative mission. The GTP organization is a nonprofit dedicated to integrating U.S. students and theater artists with local communities abroad, and the blog is a direct reflection of this work. By connecting work and educational opportunities between Florence, Italy and the United States, The GTP consistently offers projects and initiatives each year to artists and students around the world. By promoting these kind of cross-cultural alliances and improving how others perceive Americans abroad, The GTP blog helps to spread awareness of social, political and cultural happenings across the globe.

Why We Love It

President of The GTP, Bari Hochwald, has noted that The GTP blog is a way "to help people 'wake up,' embrace and celebrate the potential of international engaged work and education." We couldn't agree more with her. The blog was born of Bari's own personal experience as an expatriate who worked extensively and intimately with hundreds of U.S. students from various universities and programs--and it quickly became a way for her to explore the idea that a 'consciously' structured form of engagement which truly assisted students and artist/instructors, is what was needed to experience the world as a global citizen.

The variety of posts are insightful and focus on supporting opportunities for creative engagement and collaboration on an international scale. Whether it's discussing the reasons why theater is so important or how it can affect political protests, The GTP blog brings together American theater artists and students with their international counterparts and allows them to positively affect the communities in which they are working.
