Seeing South Korea Through New Glasses

I really like this video. The student who made it tried to give a glimpse into his experience as a study abroad student in Seoul, South Korea. How he got "sucked in" to study abroad. What his experience was like. He won a Gilman Scholarship to help him with the cost. In the video, he even includes the South Korean national anthem! As he says:

This movie is a summary of my journey. In less than five minutes you will be able to see a short glimpse of an exchange student's overall experience, more specifically, my own journey. With the phrase, "Change your perspective on life. Study Abroad" as the theme of the movie, watch and be transformed.

When someone asked him:

I really want to study abroad in South Korea but I am, well, kind of scared. I mean I haven't learned the language yet and am probably going to get culture shock. My family is not going along with the idea that well, mainly because they don't want to be separated from me for so long. But I assure that if I convince them some how that we can still be in contact they are going to give me full support. What do you think I should do? It is worth it, right?

He replied:

Studying abroad in Korea was the best thing I have done in my life. It was a life-changing experience. I totally recommend it. The hardest thing to do is step out and go to Korea. There are ways you can keep in contact with your family. You can sign up for Skype -- it's a video phone program. Through it you can talk and see people that live far away. Although I never used it, I had many friends that did.

The student who made the video went on the University of California's (UC) Education Abroad Program (EAP) at Yonsei University in South Korea. This program is only open to University of California students. However, there are many other study abroad programs to South Korea that are open to students from any college. Check them out at GoAbroad.com!
