We're starting a new series today -- JourneySongs! Every so often, we'll feature videos of music that inspires and encourages us to discover our world.
Our first entry is almost a no-brainer. In the 1960s, Walt Disney created an exhibit for the 1964 Worlds Fair in New York City that would celebrate children around the world. And that's how "It's a Small World" was born. The ride features over 300 brightly costumed audio-animatronic dolls in the style of children of the world, frolicking in a spirit of international unity, and singing the ride's title track, which has a theme of global peace. Today, the exhibit -- since updated a number of times -- is still featured at all the Disney theme parks. And the song has become a classic known around the globe. In fact, in some countries it's considered a Christmas holiday song -- another good reason to feature it today.
Hope you enjoy the video of when "It's a Small World!" was brand new, narrarated by Walt Disney himself. It is a small world, after all!
It's a world of laughter,
A world of tears.
It's a world of hopes,
And a world of fears.
There's so much that we share
That it's time we're aware
It's a small world after all! It's a small world after all!
It's a small world after all!
It's a small world after all!
It's a small, small world! There is just one moon
And one golden sun
And a smile means
Friendship to every one.
Though the mountains divide
And the oceans are wide,
It's a small world after all!
