Soccer is the most popular sport in Ghana. For impoverished children the sport serves as welcome escape from the struggles of daily life. For a volunteer with an interest in soccer and a desire to help the children of Ghana, soccer can be an important tool for encouraging and teaching children.

Back_topOrientation:

Upon arrival in Ghana, volunteers are met at the airport and taken to their temporary accommodations in Accra. They will receive an orientation that will familiarize them with the local area, the Ghanaian culture, and their program. Afterwards, volunteers travel to their project site where they will be introduced to their host family and their project.

Once the placement begins, participants will receive an additional mini-orientation at the project site that focuses on project opportunities and responsibilities. English is the national language, but many languages are spoken in Ghana. While not everyone is fluent in English, it is not necessary that you have any knowledge of any language other than English prior to your placement.

Home stays with Ghanaian host families. In more remote placements, alternative accommodations may be provided.

Food: Traditional Ghanaian food is included (3 meals per day).
